Scenic Nam Ou river by boat, visit Muang Ngoi, cave and weaving village (L)
We pick you up from your guesthouse at 8.30am and hop aboard a traditional long boat equipped with a roof to protect against the sun. We ride for 1.5 hours along the Nam Ou river to the popular village of Muang Ngoi.
As you sit back and relax aboard the long boat, you will see village people doing their daily duties, water buffalo bathing along the river banks and children playing.
Arriving Muang Ngoi we have time to explore this small village all built around a long narrow dirt road that divides the village and has become dotted with cafes making Muang Ngoi a bit of a travelers retreat. We walk a short way to the cave where people took shelter from bombs during the 2nd Indochina war.
We depart Muang Ngoi by long boat and take about 30 minutes to travel further upstream to the small and welcoming village of Sopchem.
Here we enjoy learning about weaving from your guide and you will have the opportunity to look around the village and the chance to buy one of the many weavings that are for sale at bargain prices. By now you will be feeling a little hungry so we find a good spot to enjoy lunch before heading back along the river by boat to take in more of the uninterrupted impressive views on the return journey to Nong Khiaw.
