4 Days Trekking Tours In Thakhek Loop

The Thakhek Trekking Tour Loop is primarily a 450–500 km motorbike and scenic driving circuit through Central Laos (Khammouane and Bolikhamxay provinces) rather than a multi-day foot-trekking trail. However, a standard 4-day/3-night Thakhek Loop itinerary combines motor or vehicle travel with short cave walks, river boat rides, and viewpoint climbs (averaging roughly 100 to 150 km of driving/riding per day)

Day 1: Thakhek to Thalang (Cave Alley) (L, D)

Riding/Driving Distance: ~100–115 km ( 8:30AM our car and tour guide will pick up from your hotel in Thakhek )

Walking / Trekking Distance: Short exploration walks (total ~2–5 km combined) around caves and swimming areas.

Route & Highlights:
- Depart Thakhek heading east on Route 12.
- Stop at Elephant Cave and "Cave Alley" sites like Tham Nang Aen Cave (illuminated limestone cave).
- Visit Ta Falang (Thafalang) for a refreshing river swim.
- Ride across the Nakai Plateau past the eerie flooded forest of dead trees to Thalang for an overnight stay in Phosy Thalang Guesthouse or Sabaidee Tha Lang Guesthouse.

Day 2: Thalang to Kong Lor Village (B, L, D )

Riding/Driving Distance: ~150 km

Walking / Trekking Distance: Short cave and trail walks (~2–3 km).

Route & Highlights:
- Travel via Route 1E to Route 8.
- View roadside sandstone Buddha carvings.
- Explore Dragon Cave (Tham Mangkone) for stalactite chambers.
- Swim in the bright turquoise waters of Cool Springs (Cool Pool).
- Continue to Kong Lor Village for overnight in Tondam guest house stay.

Day 3: Kong Lor Cave & Exploration ( B, L, D )

Riding/Driving Distance: Minimal local driving (~10–30 km).

Walking / Trekking Distance: A 7.5 km underground boat journey through Kong Lor Cave plus short light-torch and village paths (~2–3 km walking).

Route & Highlights:
- Board a long-tail wooden boat to navigate the 7.5-kilometer underground river tunnel of Kong Lor Cave in pitch darkness.
- Emerge on the other side to visit rural farming villages like Ban Natane.
- Afternoon side-trips or ziplining/via ferrata climbing at The Rock Viewpoint. Continue to Kong Lor Village for overnight in Tondam guest house stay.

Day 4: Kong Lor / Ban Nahin back to Thakhek ( B, L )

Riding/Driving Distance: ~180–190 km

Walking / Trekking Distance: Minimal (viewpoint photo stops).

Route & Highlights:
- Ride back west and south along Route 8 and Route 13 South.
- Stop for panoramic karst photos at Phou Pha Marn Viewpoint
- Arrive back in Thakhek by late afternoon . End The Tour .
