Vientiane - Hiking In Phou Khao Khouay National Park - 5 Days. The tranquil capital city of Vientiane maintains a vintage charm with its faded French colonial architecture juxtaposed with ornate, gilded temples. This Southeast Asia's smallest capital and Laos' largest city is such a lovable city, and there is much more to do than you may think. Spend five days visiting around the city in depth and its suburbs, meeting friendly locals, exploring beautiful natural landscapes and experiencing Vientiane through its religion and nature.

Day 1 - Vientiane Arrival.

Upon arrival at Vientiane Airport you will be met by Laos Travel's guide & driver and transferred to your hotel. After settling in, enjoy the remainder of the day free at leisure to explore the city or visit the bustling Mekong riverside area yourselves.

Day 2 - Vientiane City Tour.

Today you will discover the essential landmarks and iconic sights that the small and charismatic city of Vientiane has to offer. Vientiane remains a tranquil laid-back character, a world away from the frantic capitals in Asia, and most attractions can be reached on foot.
Start at Wat Sisaket, believed to be Vientiane's oldest surviving temple, left intact after the Siamese invasion of 1828. The interior walls of the cloister are covered in niches containing over 2,000 silver and ceramic Buddha images. Next is a visit to Wat Phra Keo, built originally to house the famed Emerald Buddha and now a religious museum that displays a collection of art representing Lao and Khmer artefacts. Continue to Wat Si Muang - the most popular one in town.
After lunch, pay a visit to Patuxai Victory Monument, Laos' version of the Arc de Triomphe and its most prominent monument. Climb the stairs to the roof for some sweeping, panoramic views over the city. Next, you'll be introduced to see Pha That Luang, the most revered shrine, constructed by King Setthathirat in the 16th century.
Afterwards, transfer out of city to visit the orchid farm, where you can find more than 2,000 plants, in 300 different orchid species coming from different parts of the country. The orchids are arranged by species in a beautiful green garden in Vientiane. Enjoy a spectacular view over the Mekong River at sunset.
End your day tour along the banks of the Mekong River as the sun begins to set. Stroll along the river, stop to enjoy a cold drink, or sample a snack from one of the many local food stalls, if you like, before being transferred back to your hotel.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch

Day 3 - Vientiane – Buddha Park – Phou Khao Khouay – Hat Khay.

After breakfast at the hotel, spend 45-minute drive out to Buddha Park. En route, stop and take photos of the Friendship Bridge which was built by the Australian government in 1994 and links Laos and Thailand. Enjoy a stroll around Buddha Park, also known as Xieng Khuan. This unusual park is filled with over 200 Buddhist and Hindu statues. The quiet and tranquil setting along the Mekong River is a contrast to the slightly eccentric sculptures which were built in 1958 by a Laotian yogi-priest shaman.
Then continue your trip to Phou Khao Khouay National Park - an enormous reserve area consisting of mountain ranges, sandstone cliffs, rivers, waterfalls and lakes along with being home to rich wildlife in South East Asia. On arrival, explore this diverse area to fully appreciate the biodiversity of this region. Head to the Ban Hat Khai Village and learn about the lifestyle of the Lao Loum ethnic people. Here you will spend the night in a rustic village accommodation as guests of the local community while experiencing the warmth and hospitality of the Lao people.
Meals: Breakfast , Lunch , Dinner.
Accommodation: Homestay.

Day 4 - Phou Khao Khouay Trekking.

Today you will hike from waterfall to waterfall as you discover the beauty of the protected area of Phou Khao Khouay.
After breakfast, a long-tail boat will take you up the stream of Nam Mang, then go on an hour trek through an evergreen canopy. You'll see incredible scenery and diverse landscapes as you follow trails through mixed deciduous forests and pass beautiful waterfalls and rivers that eventually empty into the Mekong. See tropical butterflies and orchids along the way and you'll also learn about the rare large mammals such as deer, bears, tigers and elephants that live in the reserve. Then you'll be introduced to the magnificent pair of waterfalls: Tad Xai and Pha Xay. They are particularly beautiful during or just after the rainy season and in full flow. At Tad Xay, relax by the waterfall and watch the water cascading over seven steps, the Nam Mang flows a further 800 metres to Pha Xay before plummeting 40 metres into the gorge. Enjoy some free time to swim in the crystal clear waters - truly a fantastic way to experience the pristine beauty of Laos.
After lunch nearby the waterfall, depart for the other side of the Nam Leuk to reach the trek’s starting point. The second part of the trek, which is rich in forest and a variety of landscapes, will last around 2 hours.
After the trekking experience, head back to the village for refreshment and return to Vientiane in the late afternoon.
